How Counter-Strike 2 works

CS2's core mode is 5v5 bomb defusal. Terrorists try to plant the bomb (the C4) and hold it until it detonates; Counter-Terrorists try to stop the plant or defuse it. Win enough rounds and you take the map.

The economy

You earn money for winning, losing, and getting kills, then spend it each round on weapons, armor, and utility. Learn when to full-buy, eco (save), or force-buy — and do it together, because a coordinated buy beats five solo decisions.

Core skills that carry every rank

Skills to build first
  • Crosshair placement

Keep it at head height, pre-aimed at common angles.

  • Spray control

Learn the recoil pattern of your main rifle.

  • Utility

Smokes, flashes, molotovs, and HE grenades win rounds.

  • Sound & comms

Listen for footsteps and give clear callouts.

  • Trading

Refrag a teammate who just died — don't peek alone.

Your first games (recommendations)

First-games checklist
  • Learn a couple of maps well

  • Warm up aim in the range or Deathmatch
