How League's ranked ladder works

League of Legends' ranked ladder has ten tiers. The first seven — Iron through Diamond — each have four divisions (IV lowest → I highest). The top three, the apex tiers (Master, Grandmaster, Challenger), have no divisions and rank you purely by League Points (LP).

Ranked tiers
  1. Challenger
  2. Grandmaster
  3. Master
  4. Diamond
  5. Emerald
  6. Platinum
  7. Gold
  8. Silver
  9. Bronze
  10. Iron
Ten tiers from Iron up to Challenger; Emerald sits between Platinum and Diamond.

How you climb: LP, MMR & promotions

You earn LP for wins and lose it for losses. Reach 100 LP in a division to promote; hit 100 LP in division I to move up a tier. Your hidden MMR (matchmaking rating) decides how much LP you gain or lose and who you're matched against.

Apex promotionRequirement
Master100 LP in Diamond I
Grandmaster400 LP
Challenger800 LP
Apex-tier promotions. Apex tiers also lose ~75 LP/day to inactivity decay.

How to climb (recommendations)

Climb checklist
  • Main one role

    Consistency beats filling every game.

  • Keep a small champion pool

Two or three champs you know deeply.

  • Review your losses

Fix one recurring mistake at a time.

  • Queue only when focused

Tilt and fatigue cost more LP than any pick.
