How League's ranked ladder works
League of Legends' ranked ladder has ten tiers. The first seven — Iron through Diamond — each have four divisions (IV lowest → I highest). The top three, the apex tiers (Master, Grandmaster, Challenger), have no divisions and rank you purely by League Points (LP).

◆Iron
Ten tiers from Iron up to Challenger; Emerald sits between Platinum and Diamond.
How you climb: LP, MMR & promotions
You earn LP for wins and lose it for losses. Reach 100 LP in a division to promote; hit 100 LP in division I to move up a tier. Your hidden MMR (matchmaking rating) decides how much LP you gain or lose and who you're matched against.

Challenger
