How Valorant's competitive ranks and Rank Rating work — verified against Riot's official docs — plus practical tips to climb.
Competitive is Valorant's ranked ladder. There are nine ranks — Iron, Bronze, Silver, Gold, Platinum, Diamond, Ascendant, Immortal, and Radiant. Iron through Immortal each have three tiers (1–3); Radiant is a single top rank.
For Iron through Ascendant, your progress is tracked with Rank Rating (RR). After placements you begin at 50 RR, and you need 100 RR to promote. Wins earn RR and losses cost it, with your hidden MMR shaping the amount. When you promote you keep a small buffer, and if you're demoted you land no lower than 70 RR in the tier below.
Your hidden MMR sits under RR: if your MMR is above your rank you gain more and lose less (and vice-versa). Immortal and Radiant are ordered by a leaderboard rating rather than RR alone — Radiant is the top group of players in each region.
